According to the state-owned <em>Qatar News Agency<\/em>, the Gulf country is spending US$ 61.98 billion on new projects, including infrastructure, healthcare and education. The budget is 3.5% higher than in the prior fiscal year, which ended this Monday (31st).<\/p>\n<p>The Qatari Finance minister Ali Sharif Al Emadi said the new budget is the highest in Qatari history, and is a continuation of the budgetary allocation for the 2011-2016 period.<\/p>\n<p>The government has pledged to increase funding to construction works, improvements and new projects, and cutting administrative expenses. Wage increases should see US$ 13.05 billion, up 7.3% from the prior fiscal year, and essential projects will get US$ 24.03 billion, up 16.8% from 2013\/2014.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;&quot;The budget has allocated enough funds for investments in the health and education sector as well as for the execution of mega infra-structure and transport projects such as the rail projects related to the preparation for hosting the 2022 World Cup,&rdquo; said Emadi.<\/p>\n<p>Government spending in 2014\/2015 should amount to US$ 19.55 billion, down 7.3% from the preceding fiscal year. The Finance minister said the country will strive to grow and control inflation by implementing measures to ward off hiking prices. He pledged to encourage private sector development.<\/p>\n<p>The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to increase by 6% in the new fiscal year, considering an average oil barrel price of US$ 65. Qatar boasts the world&rsquo;s third largest natural gas reserves, and is the leading exporter of the product.
