São Paulo – Executives from the Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), in Dubai, are coming to Brazil to list the advantages it can offer local businessmen. The Jafza Road Show <\/em>is organized by the Jafza in partnership with the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce <\/strong>and the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brazil). The event will take place on April 28th in São Paulo and on May 5th in Rio de Janeiro. Registration is open to trading companies, industry companies, and exporters in all segments.<\/p>\n

The Arab Brazilian Chamber CEO Michel Alaby said Jafza enables Brazilian companies to manufacture and export their products via the Jebel Ali port. The free zone provides tax exemption and a privileged location, allowing access to major consumer markets.<\/p>\n

“They offer advantages in that they are a trade hub, an industrial zone, and they grant access to approximately 1.2 billion people via the United Arab Emirates,” said Alaby. The countries targeted by Jafza products include those located in the Gulf and North Africa, India, Vietnam, the former Soviet republics, Pakistan and others. <\/p>\n

The benefits offered by Jafza include 50 years of revenue tax exemption, as well as exemption from income tax and import tax. Companies operating from Jafza are allowed to hire foreign employees, and are not required to have a local partner, unlike those operating outside the free zone. <\/p>\n

There are over 6,900 companies operating in the Jafza, with a combined 135,500 employees and US$ 69 billion in revenues in 2011. Some of the world’s leading consumer goods manufacturers operate in the free zone, where the Apex keeps a trade promotion office. <\/p>\n

“A Brazilian company could, for instance, ship poultry to the United Arab Emirates and carry out the final steps of the production process there. The same applies to consumer goods,” said Alaby. In February, during the Gulfood fair in Dubai, Jafza’s senior vice president for global sales, Adil Al Zarooni, told ANBA he will introduce the free zone’s client base to Brazilians. “We will show them that the Jafza is a good choice for those who wish to do business in Dubai,” he said. <\/p>\n
