São Paulo – The Brazilian wholesale and distribution sector grew 4.4% in 2013 compared to the previous year, reaching a revenue of around US$ 87.6 billion (R$ 197.3 billion). The increase was 10.6% in nominal terms. The data was released this Monday (28th) by the Brazilian Association of Wholesalers and Distributors (Abad).<\/p>\n
The sector was responsible for 52% of all the amount moved in the groceries market which comprises commonly used products by families, such as food, beverages, cleaning, personal hygiene and care.<\/p>\n
According to the president of the Abad, José do Egito Frota Lopes Filho, the positive result of the companies is a reflection of the consumers’ disposition to acquire non-durable goods. “We have observed that the consumer replaces products and is more demanding and picky, but has not given up on his purchasing power, seeing as employment and income remain high” he said.<\/p>\n
For this year, the organization estimates an increase of 3.5% in real terms in comparison to 2013.<\/p>\n
