Brazil exported the equivalent of US$ 2.2 billion in agricultural product to the region. In the same period last year, revenues stood at US$ 2.7 billion.<\/p>\n<p>According to the ministry, sales to Saudi Arabia, the leading Arab buyer of Brazilian agribusiness products, were down 31.2% and fetched US$ 639.7 million.<\/p>\n<p>Sales to Egypt, the second leading Arab buyer of Brazilian agribusiness, were up 12.7% to US$ 514.4 million. The United Arab Emirates imported the equivalent of US$ 462.9 million, down 31.6%; and Algerian imports amounted to US$ 420.7 million, up 39.1%.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the leading importer was China, followed by United States, Netherlands, Hong Kong and Germany. Saudi Arabia was the 10th leading importer, Egypt was 13th, the United Arab Emirates ranked 17th and Algeria ranked 20th. <\/p>\n<p>Year-to-date through April, overall agribusiness exports stood at US$ 29.85 billion, down 1.2% from the same period last year. Imports were down 0.2% to US$ 5.7 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Soy bean, bran and oil grossed the highest revenues, at US$ 10.86 billion year-to-date through April, up 32.6%, followed by meats, at US$ 5.24 billion, down 2.8%. The third group was forestry products, at US$ 3.17 billion, up 5%. Sugar and ethanol sales were down 28.9% to US$ 2.94 billion, and coffee exports fetched US$ 1.8 billion, down 6.3%.<\/p>\n<p>Sales to Asia accounted for 43.3% of agribusiness exports. Shipments to the European Union accounted for 21.3% of total sales; exports to the Nafta (Mexico, the United States and Canada) accounted for 7.7%; and sales to the Middle East were equivalent to 7.4% of overall exports.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In April <\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>As per the results released, sales to the Middle East in April grossed US$ 519.9 million, down 28% from April last year. Overall, agribusiness exports in April fetched US$ 9.62 billion, down 0.3% from April last year. Imports were up 0.9% to US$ 1.45 billion.
