According to information released this Wednesday (4th) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the decline in production was mostly a consequence of poor automotive industry performance. <\/p>\n<p>According to the IBGE, production of motor vehicles, trailers and bodies was down 21.3% April-on-April. Output also declined significantly in other industry segments. Machinery and equipment output was down 9.9%, metal products output was down 10.8%, machinery, electrical devices and materials output was down 15.1% and metallurgy was down 6.2%, according to the IBGE.<\/p>\n<p>Year-to-date through April, industrial activity was down 1.2% from the same period in 2013.
