The estimate represents an increase of 2.6% increase, or 4.9 million tonnes, over the previous crop’s 188.7 million tonnes.

Compared with last month’s survey, the output forecast is up by roughly 2.3 million tonnes, due to recovery in first- and second-crop maize, third-crop bean, and wheat. The wheat output forecast is up 33.4% to 7.37 million tonnes. The total bean output forecast was up 32.3% to 3.71 million tonnes. Maize output (first and second crops) was up 3.6%, to 77.9 million tonnes.

To the Agriculture minister Neri Geller, Brazilian farmers are excited. “We are confident about seeing 193 million tonnes, and perhaps even something closer to 195 million tonnes. The big surprise which has taken shape is second-crop maize. And there is a great outlook for wheat too, although the crops are still being planted,” he said.

*Translated by Gabriel Pomerancblum

The current Brazilian crop should produce 193.6 million tonnes, according to a National Supply Company survey.
