Brasília – Brazilian overseas spending amounted to US$ 2.4 billion in September, as against US$ 2.1 billion in the same month last year, up 11.1%. Spending increased in spite of the strong appreciation of US dollar against Brazil’s real in September, which was 9.6%. The North American currency ended the month traded at R$ 2.45, according to data from the BC.<\/p>\n
Year-to-date through September, overseas spending reached US$ 19.6 billion, as against US$ 18.6 billion in the same period last year, an increase of 5.3%.<\/p>\n
Spending by foreigners in trips to Brazil reached US$ 493 million against US$ 505 million in the same month last year. In January through September, spending reached US$ 5.4 billion, as against US$ 5 billion in the same period of 2013.<\/p>\n
With these spending and revenues figures, international travel account deficit ran at US$ 1.9 billion last month, as against a US$ 1.6 billion deficit in September 2013. Year-to-date through September 2014, international travel account is posting a US$ 14.2 billion deficit, as against US$ 13.6 billion in the same period last year.<\/p>\n
