Based on this result, the board of directors has recommended that QNB&rsquo;s general assembly distribute a cash dividend of 75% of the nominal share value (7.5 Qatari rials per share, or US$ 2.06 at current exchange rates).<\/p>\n<p>The results and dividend distribution are pending approval from the Qatar Central Bank. Half of QNB&rsquo;s shares are held by Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), the country&rsquo;s sovereign fund. The other half are in the hands of private investors. <\/p>\n<p>According to a QNB press release, total assets were up 9.7% to US$ 133.6 billion, the highest ever. The bank ascribes this to a strong 8.8% increase in loans and advances, to US$ 92.9 billion in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Total equity was up 7.9% to US$ 15.9 billion as of December 31st, 2014. According to the bank, its brand value was US$ 1.81 billion by the end of the year, making it the most valuable brand in the Middle East and North Africa and the 101st in the world. <\/p>\n<p>In the second half, QNB purchased a 19.4% stake in Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, the leading Pan-African bank. According to the press release, Ecobank is a strategic partner and the newly-acquired stake is crucial to QNB&rsquo;s plans of being an &ldquo;icon&rdquo; in the Middle East and Africa by 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The QNB Group covers 26-plus countries in three different continents via its subsidiaries and associate companies.
