Rio de Janeiro – Brazilian industrial sector confidence levels started the year strong. Data released this Friday (23th) by the Brazilian Institute of Economics of Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV, the Portuguese acronym) shows that January’s preview of the Survey of Manufacturing Industry points to an increase of 1.2% of the Industry Confidence Index (ICI) in comparison to December’s final result, considering seasonally adjusted data. <\/p>\n
FGV’s preview shows different results than the one from January’s Business Confidence Index (Icei, in the Portuguese acronym), issued by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI). According to the numbers released by CNI on the 20th, the confidence of the industry reached its lowest point since 1999, year of the start of the survey’s historical series. <\/p>\n
With the results released by FGV, the ICI reaches 85.3 points, returning to the level of last November (85.6). According to FGV, January’s results was affected by the improvement of assessments about the current moment, with the Present Situation Index (ISA, in the Portuguese acronym) with the possibility to reach 2.1% over December, which would raise the level to 85.8 points – a level close to the 85.9 points of last November. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Expectations Index (IE, in the Portuguese acronym) could increase 0.4%, reaching 84.9 points. The preliminary results of the Installed Capacity Utilization Rate (Nuci, in the Portuguese acronym) point to an increase of 0.8 percentage point from December to January, going from 81.3$ to 82.1%. <\/p>\n
For the January 2015 previews, 783 companies were polled between the 5th and 20th of this month. The final results of the survey will be released next Wednesday, January 28th. <\/p>\n
