São Paulo – Petrobras released this Wednesday (28) the company’s financial statement from the July to September period of last year. According to the report, the company registered a net profit of US$ 3.087 billion (US$ 1.196 billion), down 38% over the previous quarter. The result is not considering the charges against earnings related to the corruption scandal revealed by Federal Police’s operation Lava Jato. <\/p>\n
Petrobras increased its production of oil and gas in 6%, which represents 118,000 more barrels daily. This increase was obtained because more producing units went into operation. Oil exports were up 134% and reached 185,000 barrels per day. The company says that the operational profit was of R$ 4.6 billion (US$ 1.7 billion), down 48% compared to the second quarter, because of increase of costs. This result affected the net profit. <\/p>\n
Data from the third quarter was not audited. It was supposed to be released in November last year, but the company hired to audit the results didn’t sign the document because it didn’t account for the losses taken because of the corruption scandal. <\/p>\n
In a statement released with the results, Maria das Graças Silva Foster, chief executive officer, said that the testimonies to which the company gained access revealed the existence of illicit acts that turned payments to those involved in the scandal into costs. A calculation not included in the results showed that it would be necessary to include losses of R$ 88.6 billion (US$ 34.3 billion). The company didn’t include these results in the balance sheet because, according to the methodology used, in this amount losses unrelated to corruption could be included. <\/p>\n
Lava Jato Operation was launched in March 2014 and showed a corruption scheme in which company directors appointed by political parties worked together with construction companies to overestimate the cost of works and projects and pay bribes. Petrobras stocks were down on the floor this Wednesday. At 3:46 PM, Petrobras’ preferred shares were dealt at R$ 9.20 (US$ 3.57), a drop of 9.54%.
