São Paulo – Brazilian exports of machinery declined 31.9% in January in comparison to December 2014, with an amount of US$ 785 million generated. In comparison to January of last year, the drop on the sector’s foreign sales in the first month of this year was of 30.6%. The data was released this Wednesday (25th) by the Brazilian Machinery and Equipment Association (Abimaq). <\/p>\n
According to the association, the decline in January’s total exports follows a widespread drop occurring in the sectors of capital goods production. Comparing foreign sales of the first month of the year with December 2014, the sector of oil and renewable energy machinery was the only one to grow. <\/p>\n
Latin America, United States and Europe were, in this particular order, the main destinations for national exports of machinery and equipment. According to Abimaq, the United States was responsible for an important growth on purchases of machinery from Brazil, being close to reach the top of the list of destinations for the sector’s foreign sales.<\/p>\n
Imports<\/strong><\/p>\n In January, Brazil imported US$ 2.616 billion in machinery and equipment, 19.2% more than December 2014. However, in comparison with January of last year, machinery imports dropped 12.7%. <\/p>\n With the import of a lightship from China, the Asian country took the top position in the ranking of the sector’s Brazilian imports, with a share of 32.4% in the total of the national purchases. United States stood in second place. Together, both countries accounted for 51.1% of the total of machinery imported by Brazil in January. <\/p>\n In total, the trade balance of the sector recorded, in January, a déficit of US$ 1.831, na increase of 75% over December 2014.
