The announcement was made by the company in a press release, in which it also reports a 4.1% growth of gross container volumes in H1 of this year. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our flagship Jebel Ali Port continues to respond to market demand and we are on track to deliver an additional 2 million TEUs of capacity in terminal 3 in the second half of 2015. Jebel Ali continues to operate at high levels of utilization and given the strong domestic and regional growth outlook, including the lead up to Expo 2020, we are delighted to announce construction of Terminal 4, which will deliver phase one new capacity of 3.1 million TEUs by 2018&rdquo;, declared Ahmed Bin Sulayem, DP World&rsquo;s president, in the press release. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This will take total Jebel Ali capacity to 22.1 million TEUs and will ensure our flagship asset continues to have sufficient capacity to serve the future growth demand of the UAE and the wider region&rdquo;, he said. TEU is a unity corresponding to a 20 feet container. <\/p>\n<p>The release also reports that the company handled 30.6 million TEUs across its global portfolio of container terminals during H1 2015, 4.1% more than in the same period of 2014. The growth was driven especially by terminals in Europe and in the United Arab Emirates. In the Emirates, the company handled 7.9 million TEUs, a 6% growth. Over in Europe, the release reports that there&rsquo;s been steady growth despite the difficult geopolitical environment. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It has been well documented that market conditions in the first half have been relatively challenging.
