São Paulo – The Middle East remained as the main destination for Brazilian poultry exports from January to July. The countries in the region imported 884,700 tons, a volume 10% higher than the one registered in the same period of last year, according to data provided by the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) this Tuesday (11th).<\/p>\n
Sales to Asia increased 5% from January to July and reached 707,500 tons. Africa imported 309,800 tons, an increase of 7.4% over the first seven months of last year. Shipments to the European Union declined 6.5% to 224,800 tons.<\/p>\n
Early in the month, ABPA reported that July exports were record-breaking. In the press release of this Tuesday, the institution said that the largest importers of the product boosted sales of the sector.<\/p>\n
Of Brazil’s 20 largest clients, 16 increased purchases in July. In the month, volume of sales was 13% higher over July of last year, with a total of 447,200 tons shipped. In the year, sales totaled 2.437 million tons, or 4.53% more than January to July 2014.<\/p>\n
“Practically in all continents, we improved our exports performance, with the expansion of the mix of products exported in some destinations”, said ABPA’s poultry vice-president Ricardo Santin in the press release. He mentioned that Russia, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt and South Korea increased purchases. <\/p>\n
July’s highlight was China, which imported 35,000 tons of poultry, with an increase of 59% over the same period of last year. South Africa increased its purchases in 89% to a total of 27,000 tons last month only. On the other hand, shipments to Hong Kong and Venezuela dropped.<\/p>\n
