{"id":52127,"date":"2015-09-22T19:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-09-22T21:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/escaesco.com.br\/lab\/anba\/imf-advises-more-taxes-for-palestine\/"},"modified":"2019-06-30T12:56:59","modified_gmt":"2019-06-30T15:56:59","slug":"imf-advises-more-taxes-for-palestine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/imf-advises-more-taxes-for-palestine\/","title":{"rendered":"IMF advises more taxes for Palestine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>S&atilde;o Paulo &ndash; The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said that Palestinian authorities will need to contain increases in wages, raise taxes and improve management of tax revenues to prevent the worsening of the situation in the territories of Gaza Strip and West Bank. <\/p>\n<p>In a statement released Monday (21st) evening for the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC), the Mission Chief for the West Bank and Gaza, Christoph Duenwald, said that the costs of &ldquo;inaction&rdquo; are &ldquo;potentially severe&rdquo;. Among them, he listed rising unemployment, sustained recession and even social unrest. <\/p>\n<p>The Fund said that Israel, the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the main donors need to work together to maintain macro-fiscal stability, safeguard institutions and ensure the steady inflow of donor aid. The AHLC is a committee formed by countries and international institutions that promotes the dialogue between donors, PA and Israel.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Fund&rsquo;s report, Palestine should register a financing gap in 2015 projected at US$ 500 million, or 3.7% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Gaza Strip and West Bank. Therefore, the Fund advises that measures should be taken to guarantee fiscal balance for the Arab country. &ldquo;Measures should focus on limiting the rise in the wage bill, introducing new government administrative fees, and strengthening tax administration&rdquo;, says the Fund. <\/p>\n<p>Among the reasons responsible for Palestine to face &ldquo;daunting challenges&rdquo;, IMF lists the stalled peace process with Israel and the rising political uncertainty.
