São Paulo – Telecom infrastructure equipment by Datacom, a company based in Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul state, are present in 40 countries, some of them Arab. Since 2012, the devices are sold to a distributor in Egypt, which resells them to telephony and internet operators locally and has shipped them to Kuwait in the past.<\/p>\n
“Our equipment is intended for network infrastructure, such as modems, switches and multiplexers. Our exports to them are not numerous, but are continuous and steady,” says Mario Wickert, the company’s Exports manager. <\/p>\n
In simpler terms, the modems are devices that carry the internet signal from the operator to end users; switches are used for directing users to the internet website they wish to visit, and multiplexers enable one communication canal to be used by several users at once. <\/p>\n
Wickert explains that it was the Egyptian distributor who contacted the Brazilian company, and began importing after paying a visit to Datacom’s plant in Rio Grande do Sul.<\/p>\n
Presently, Datacom’s top export destinations are Argentina, Peru, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Venezuela. In 2014, the company grossed R$ 250 million (US$ 60 million) in revenues, 5% of which originated from foreign sales. <\/p>\n
According to Wickert, Datacom intends to increase its international activities. “We are growing every year and our goal is to diversify our markets. The Arab market is an interesting one and we are keeping track of it,” he says. <\/p>\n
According to the executive, the main international events the company attends take place in Spain and Germany. “We get in touch with many Middle East clients there,” he says.<\/p>\n
Founded in 1998, Datacom is based in the city of Eldorado do Sul and has 800 employees.<\/p>\n
