It was the highest traffic ever for the month, manager Abu Dhabi Airports reported last Sunday (27th).<\/p>\n<p>Aircraft traffic was up 14.1% to 15,277 arrivals and departures. Cargo throughput reached 70,857 tons, up 7% from August 2014.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;In the month of August we registered another record number in passenger figures at Abu Dhabi International Airport. For the second time ever we witnessed over 2 million passengers travelling through the airport in a single month,&rdquo; said the COO of Abu Dhabi Airports, Ahmad Al Haddabi, in a press release.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This spike in traffic is attributable to many residents returning home to the UAE from vacations, ahead of the beginning of the school year. Abu Dhabi is also increasingly being seen as a preferred tourism and business destination and this contributes directly to the growth we&rsquo;re seeing year-on-year,&rdquo; he added.<\/p>\n<p>The busiest routes in August were those connecting Abu Dhabi with London, in the United Kingdom, Bangkok, in Thailand, Doha, in Qatar, Manila, in the Philippines, and Mumbai, in India.
