The information was released this Tuesday (27th) by the Ministry of Justice at the end of the visit made by Vasconcelos to Syria`s neighboring countries.

Vasconcelos visited Beirut, Lebanon, this Tuesday, and met with ambassador Jorge Kadri. He also visited Istanbul, Turkey, and Amman, Jordan. These are the countries receiving the highest numbers of Syrian refugees and, thus, the Brazilian consular representations in them are the ones receiving the highest number of requests for humanitarian visas to Brazil.

The training to be offered to the staff members of consular representations is part of an agreement signed between Conare and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) earlier this month. Among the actions planned by the partnership are the exchange of information and interview techniques, for instance.

At the end of the visit to the Middle East, Vasconcelos said that humanitarian visas issuance is a way to offer “relief” to the people that are trying to escape the conflict that is affecting Syria since 2011. In Jordan, he visited the Zaatari refugees camp, which holds near 80,000 people.

“The action by the MJ [Ministry of Justice] and by the MRE [Ministry of Foreign Relations] shows the country`s commitment to offering alternatives of relief to these people living in an extremely sensitive situation, escaping from situations that places them in immediate danger to their lives and the lives of their children and family”, said Vasconcelos, according to a press release by the Ministry of Justice.

The humanitarian visa requires less documents by the applicant than the standard one. It allows people to travel to Brazil before applying for asylum. While Conare reviews the applications, applicants can live in the country, work and use public health and education services. According to data from the Ministry of Justice, there are 8,500 refugees in Brazil. From this total, 2,097 are Syrians.

*Translated by Sérgio Kakitani

Valter Campanato/Ag.Brasil

In a visit to the countries affected by the Syrian crisis, president of the refugee committee said that next week the Brazilian consular representations will be given training to speed up the issuance of visas.

[106

0":"post-52419","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-foreign-affairs
In a visit to the countries affected by the Syrian crisis, president of the refugee committee said that next week the Brazilian consular representations will be given training to speed up the issuance of visas.
["GET
