The theme of the contest is &ldquo;Navy Officers: Taking Care of People.&rdquo; According to the embassy, entrants&rsquo; projects must showcase the humane, social role played by the Brazilian Navy in Lebanon. The institution is leading the maritime taskforce of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil).<\/p>\n<p>According to the head of Culture at the Embassy of Brazil in Beirut, Adam Muniz, the project was devised by the Navy to emphasize the &ldquo;humane dimension&rdquo; of the work of Brazilian navy officers, and to honor them on occasion of December 13th, the Day of the Navy Officer in Brazil. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The intention is to portray the Navy not only as a naval force, but as an institution that looks after people. The Brazilian Navy performs many other important duties for the population here in Lebanon,&rdquo; said Muniz.<\/p>\n<p>Last June, the Embassy and the Navy organized a photo contest. Now, they are focusing on the graphic arts. &ldquo;The Lebanese have high regard for graphic production and creation. We have noticed that these projects get the youth involved. We want to draw them into the contest,&rdquo; Muniz explained.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible projects include cartoons, drawings and comic books, among others. Each entrant can enter up to three pieces and there are no restrictions regarding age. <\/p>\n<p>Anyone from any nationality who lives in any Lebanese city can apply. The projects will be exhibited at the Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center, in Beirut, from December 10th, when the winners will be announced, until February 12th. The first, second and third-place winners will respectively win a tablet, a semi-professional camera and a smartphone. All three will get an award certificate. All entrants will receive a certificate of participation.
