São Paulo – The Brazilian government issued two statements this Wednesday (25th) condemning the attacks that took place last Tuesday (24th) in Tunisia and Egypt. In the former, a suicide bomber attacked a Tunisian presidential guard bus in the capital Tunis, killing at least 12 people. In Egypt, terrorists stormed a hotel in the Sinai Peninsula city of Al-Arish, claiming at least seven lives. <\/p>\n
“Brazil sends its condolences to the victims’ families and reiterates its repudiation of terrorist acts of all sorts, whatever their pretexts may be,” a Foreign Ministry statement on the events in Tunisia reads. The text goes on to say that the country “renews its solidarity towards the Tunisian people and government, whom, bravely and with a firm commitment to the values of dialogue and tolerance, are making important strides towards consolidating their institutions.”<\/p>\n
The statement adds that “Brazil is confident that democratic Tunisia will overcome yet another trial in the struggle against terrorism, and will emerge from it stronger.”<\/p>\n
Regarding Egypt, the Foreign Ministry mentions that the casualties included a judge and a prosecutor tasked with overseeing the legislative elections in the Arab nation. “In extending its solidarity to the victims’ families, the people and government of Egypt, Brazil reiterates its utmost repudiation of all terrorist acts, whatever their pretexts may be,” goes the statement.<\/p>\n
