In a press conference in December, ABPA said it believed the growth in 2015 would be of approximately 4% over 2014, reaching 4.2 million tons.

In a statement, ABPA said that last year’s performance brought as a result an expansion of the Brazilian presence in the poultry global market. “With this surplus, Brazil not only kept world leadership but also expanded its share, now accounting for, approximately, 37% of the world’s exports”, said ABPA’s vice-president, Francisco Turra.

In 2015, revenues obtained with exports reached BRL 23.946 billion, 26% over 2014’s numbers. In dollars, revenues stood at USD 7.170 billion, a decline of 11.3%. In 2015, the real depreciated against the dollar significantly.

In December, poultry exports reached the second largest volume in history. According to data by ABPA, exports reached 399,900 tons, an increase of 14.3% over the same period in 2014. Revenues in reais increased 32.7% and reached BRL 2.336 billion. In dollars, there was a 9.5% decline to USD 603.5 million.

Ricardo Santin, Poultry vice-president at ABPA, said in the same statement that this was the best exports performance for a December and attributed part of the results to shipments to the Middle East. “The international market remains booming for Brazilian exporters, who have been expanding their business, especially in the Middle East and Asia”, he said.

ABPA’s expectation is for 2016 to surpass 2015 due to the opening of new markets and the increase in number of export-capable plants.

*Translated by Sérgio Kakitani

Jonas Oliveira/ANPr

Sales abroad set records in 2015 when they reached 4.3 million tons.
