São Paulo – Retail sales volume increased 1.5% in November 2015 over October of the same year, according to data released this Wednesday (13th) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. It was the second consecutive increase within this comparison. Nominal revenues of retail increased 2.3% from October to November.<\/p>\n
According to IBGE, the main positive highlights were the furniture and household appliances sectors and other personal and domestic items. “The performance of these segments in November indicates an anticipation movement of Christmas shopping, a fact already noticed in previous years”, said the institute in a statement. Sales also went up for pharmaceuticals, medical and orthopedic products, toiletries, cosmetics, and fabrics, apparel and footwear. IBGE also emphasized the significant improvement in the area of office equipment, computing and communication.<\/p>\n
However, in decline were sales of hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages and tobacco; books, newspapers, magazines and stationery; and fuels and lubricants.<\/p>\n
In comparison to November 2014, sales dropped 7.8%. It was the eighth consecutive decline within this comparison and the steepest one since March 2003. From January to November 2015, the volume of sales dropped 4% over the same period of the previous year. Nominal revenues, meanwhile, increased 1.4% in the comparison November\/November and 3.3% in 2015.<\/p>\n
In the comparison of November 2015 with the same month in 2014, there was a decline in sales of hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages and tobacco; furniture and household appliances; fabrics, apparel and footwear; and fuel and lubricants. Together, these groups account or 90% of the overall result, according to IBGE.<\/p>\n
