According to the study, 296 acquisitions of Brazilian companies by foreign ones were carried out last year, an increase of 2% over 2014 results. There was an increase of 50% over 2014 in operations in which local companies acquired businesses abroad. There were 66 operations of this type, according to KPMG.

In a statement released by the consulting company, Luis Motta, a partner at KPMG, said that the current economic scenario and the depreciation of Brazil’s currency, the real, against other foreign currencies could have “sped up” the arrival and expansion of foreign companies in Brazil. He also said that local companies lost value, which even made up for the worsening of Brazil’s growth estimates.

“On the other hand, a number of Brazilian companies tried to expand their businesses to countries in which they see better economic prospects and lower risks, even though in some cases paying a higher price due to the loss of real’s purchasing power”, said Motta in KPMG’s statement.

According to data from KPMG, in 2015 there were 773 sale and purchase agreements of companies in the local market or involving Brazilian companies, a volume 5.5% less than 2014 and the lowest since 2010. Deals between Brazilian companies totaled 269 operations. In 2014, there were 331 local agreements.

According to Motta, the decline in deals in 2015 is the result of companies being financially weaker. He said that the pace of business decreased in the second half of 2015.

The survey analyzed 43 sectors of the economy. Information Technology was the sector that had more acquisitions between companies with 121 in total. It’s followed by internet companies, with 70 operations, and the food, beverages and tobacco sectors, which had 65 operations completed.

*Translated by Sérgio Kakitani

Gabriel Rosa/SMCS 17-10-2014

Survey by KPMG consulting company shows that foreigners bought 296 companies in Brazil and that Brazilians acquired 66 companies abroad in 2015.

[91

0":"post-53082","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-economy
Survey by KPMG consulting company shows that foreigners bought 296 companies in Brazil and that Brazilians acquired 66 companies abroad in 2015.
["GET
