The surplus stemmed from USD 3.145 billion in exports and USD 2.524 billion in imports, the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade reported this Monday (18).<\/p>\n<p>Month-to-date, exports fetched USD 6.067 billion, with imports at USD 5.596 billion, resulting in a USD 471 million surplus. <\/p>\n<p>In the first two weeks of January, exports averaged USD 606.7 billion a day, down 7% from a year ago. Finished goods exports dropped 15.8% due to weaker sales of refined sugar, aircraft, auto parts and motors, pharmaceuticals, hydrocarbons, pumps, compressors and their parts, and ethanol. <\/p>\n<p>Semi-finished goods exports dropped 11.3%, driven by nickel cathodes, cast iron, semi-finished iron and steel products, raw soya oil, raw sugar, copper cathodes and leather. <\/p>\n<p>Conversely, basic goods exports climbed 2.9%, driven by soybean, maize, raw sugar, soya bran and crude oil.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, imports in the first two weeks of January averaged USD 559.6 million a day, down 30.4% from a year ago, highlighting fuels and lubricants, steel and iron products, autos and auto parts, electrical and electronic equipment, rubber, fertilizers and plastics. <\/p>\n<p><strong>*Translated by Gabriel Pomerancblum<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"credits-overlay\" data-target=\".wp-image-184769\">Porto de Antonina<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The USD 621 million surplus was the result of USD 3.145 billion in exports and USD 2.524 billion in imports.
