The ICE is measured by think tank Fundação Getúlio Vargas on a quarterly basis. It ranges from 20 to 180 points with the midpoint being 100. Above-midpoint scores are deemed favorable and below-midpoint scores are unfavorable.

The growth was driven by an improvement in the Future Expectations Indicator, which went from 68 to 74 points. The Current Scenario Indicator remained at 20 points. Since both sub-indicators (Expectation and Current Scenario) are lower than 100, the country is considered to be in recession.

*Translated by Gabriel Pomerancblum

The index from think tank Fundação Getulio Vargas climbed from 44 to 47 points between October 2015 and January 2016.
