According to data released this Monday (22) by the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, foreign sales from February 15 and 21 exceeded those of the preceding week, and the month-to-date result is higher than the average from February 2015.<\/p>\n<p>In the third week of the month, exports averaged USD 733.5 million a day, up 5.2% from the prior week. Basic goods exports were up 17.4% and semi-finished goods exports were up 1.3%. Finished goods exports slid 2.4%. Imports averaged USD 620.4 million per day, up 15.8% from the previous week. <\/p>\n<p>Month-to-date through the third week of February, exports averaged USD 711.3 million a day, up 5.9% from February 2015. Semi-finished goods exports were up 17.7% to USD 124 million, finished goods exports were up 10.2% to USD 298 million, and finished goods exports were down 0.9% to USD 274.7 million based on average daily numbers. <\/p>\n<p>Semi-finished goods exports were driven by bigger sales of raw sugar, copper cathodes, wood pulp, sawed and split wood. Finished goods exports were driven by sales of flexible iron\/steel pipes, ethanol, non-frozen orange juice, taps, valves and their parts and automobiles. <\/p>\n<p>Imports declined month-to-date through the third week of February. According to Ministry data, imports averaged at USD 568.5 million a day, down 31.5% from February 2015. Products whose imports dropped the most include fuels and lubricants (-41.5%), iron and steel products (-56.3%), vehicles and their parts (-42.8%) and electric and electronic appliances (-42.4%).<\/p>\n<p>Month-to-date, exports reached USD 9.247 billion and imports amounted to USD 7.389 billion, resulting in a USD 1.858 billion surplus. Year-to-date, exports from Brazil fetched USD 20.493 billion and imports stand at USD 17.712 billion.
