States with the biggest increases were Santa Catarina at 3.7% and Par&aacute; at 3.3%, according to numbers from the Monthly Industrial Survey &ndash; Regional Physical Production.<\/p>\n<p>Industry output also grew in six other localities: Bahia (2.6%), Rio Grande do Sul (2.5%), Cear&aacute; (2.4%), Paran&aacute; (2.2%), the Northeast (1.5%) and S&atilde;o Paulo (1.1%). Conversely, production slowed in six states, despite a 0.4% overall increment in the national average: Pernambuco, Amazonas and Esp&iacute;rito Santo (with a 2.1% drop in all three states), Rio de Janeiro (down 2.1%), Goi&aacute;s and Minas Gerais (output was down 1% in both).<\/p>\n<p>Year-on-year in January, production declined in 12 of 15 areas, with the sharpest drops seen in Amazonas (-30.9%), Pernambuco (-29.4%) and Esp&iacute;rito Santo (-26.3%), and increase in only three states: Par&aacute; (10.5%), Bahia (10.3%) and Mato Grosso (9.3%).<\/p>\n<p>In the 12 months ended January, industrial output also dropped in 12 out of 15 localities surveyed, especially Amazonas (-18.4%), S&atilde;o Paulo (-11.7%) and Rio Grande do Sul (-11.3%).
