The information is from a report issued by the World Bank this week and was made public by the Jordanian news outlet <em>Petra<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan&rsquo;s GDP growth in 2015 was the lowest in four years, with already high unemployment climbing even further. According to <em>Petra<\/em>, the World Bank&rsquo;s report contains similar estimates to ones recently released by the Central Bank of Jordan.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, ripple effects from regional conflicts weighed down on industries including tourism, construction, investment and foreign trade. Unemployment reached 13%, a 1.1 percentage point increase over a 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The monetary policy was loosened, with an interest rate cut to counter a slight deflation, and foreign currency reserves increased to USD 14.2 billion at the end of 2015. Additionally, the country&rsquo;s fiscal deficit was reduced. <\/p>\n<p>However, the current account deficit widened on the back of dwindling tourism revenues and other factors. <\/p>\n<p>The pickup expected for 2016 was driven by the expansion of activities such as mining and an expected improvement in areas including tourism and construction. <\/p>\n<p>There are also expectations surrounding the signing of an Extended Fund Facility (EFF) agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). This type of credit is allocated to countries with low growth rates and balance of payments imbalances.
