In March of last year, the deficit had reached USD 5.759 billion.<\/p>\n<p>According to Central Bank&#8217;s numbers disclosed by official news outlet <em>Ag&ecirc;ncia Brasil<\/em>, the primary income account, which comprises profits, dividends, interest payments and wages, closed on a USD 2.449 billion deficit in March. The services accounts, including international travel spending, transportation, equipment rental and insurance, among other components, had a USD 2.904 billion deficit. Spending by Brazilians in other countries was the lowest for the month of March in six years, at USD 1.291 billion last year. <\/p>\n<p>The secondary income account, i.e. donations and dollar remittances, had a USD 240 million surplus. The USD 4.258 billion trade surplus recorded in March also helped ease Brazil&rsquo;s current account deficit.<\/p>\n<p>In Q1 this year, the current account deficit reached USD 7.591 billion, down from USD 25.099 billion in Q1 2015. <\/p>\n<p>This Wednesday, the Central Bank also reported that foreign direct investment reached USD 5.557 billion in March and USD 16.993 billion.
