Occupancy rates dropped 1.8% to 71.1%. The numbers are from a survey conducted by consulting firm STR and were released on the website of the Dubai daily <em>Gulf News<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Since rates dropped more than occupancy, revenue per available room in the region stood at USD 123.79, down 12.4%. <\/p>\n<p>In Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, occupancy remained flat, but average rates slid 12.4%&uml;. In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, occupancy was down 7.3% and rates fell 2.6%. <\/p>\n<p>In Kuwait, occupancy was down 0.3% with rates dropping 2.1%. <em>Gulf News<\/em> said occupancy levels in the country fell in nine out of the ten months that following the attack at the Imam Al-Sadiq mosque in June of last year. <\/p>\n<p>In Northern and Southern Africa, occupancy was 55.5% in April, down 4.1% from a year ago. Average rates, however, climbed 10.4% to USD 108.85.
