With units in the city’s Jardins and Pinheiros neighborhoods, L’oeil sells imported furniture and decoration pieces. Moroccan-made items are a unique offering, and the new collection was sourced directly in the Arab country in September 2015.

Brand owner Judith Adler Rosenhek makes a point of finding and buying the product herself in Morocco. “The pieces are bought directly from the artisans,” Rosenhek told ANBA via email. Most items in the new collection are reproductions of ancient items. They were purchased in cities like Fez, Marrakech, Meknes and Essaouira.

Items from Morocco include carpets made near the Atlas Mountains and in the Sahara Desert. Handmade mosaic ceramic tables are also on offer. The mosaics, called Zelliges are staples of Moroccan architecture. “They are made exclusively in Morocco,” says Rosenhek. The batch also includes hand-painted plates and vases, potiches, bowls, chandeliers, lanterns, mirrors, and clay and terracotta jars.

The owner travels to Morocco often to get new items. Prices range from BRL 24.20 glasses to unique ancient items. The buyers are high income people, architects, interior decorators, artists, and retailers from elsewhere in Brazil. Rosenhek says L’oeil is also strong in the corporate market, supplying furniture to malls, hotels, hospitals, restaurants and other establishments.

L’oeil has been importing and selling Moroccan items for 20-plus years. According to Rosenhek, the outlets in Jardins and Pinheiros have doubled in size since they first opened. Apart from handicraft from Morocco, the shops carry objects and furnishing from China, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Philippines, France, Portugal, Belgium, Turkey, and Brazil.

Quick facts:
L’oeil Móveis e Decoração
www.loeil.com.br

Pinheiros Store
Praça Benedito Calixto, 182 – São Paulo
Phone: (55 11) 3897-8787

Jardins Store
Rua Bela Cintra, 2009 – São Paulo
Phone: (55 11) 3896-3211

*Translated by Gabriel Pomerancblum

Graziella Fraccaroli

L’oeil shops carry locally-made and international furniture and items at two outlets in São Paulo.
