It had previously increased 0.2% in August and 2.2% in July. The IACE is measured in tandem by the Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV/IBRE) and The Conference Board (TCB) and aims to anticipate the direction of the Brazilian economy in the short term.

“As well as in previous months, the weak performance of the index has been showing that the depth of the current recession demands a cautious analysis on the expectation variables that form the IACE. While the rate is signaling a recovery of the activity level, its evolution suggests that we are not yet experiencing a clear reversion of the cycle”, said Paulo Picchetti, researcher at IBRE/FGV.

*Translated by Sérgio Kakitani

The Leading Economic Index (IACE) rose 1.3% in September over August.
