São Paulo – The organization of the Expo 2020, the world exhibition to be held by Dubai, United Arab Emirates, will award this year 47 construction contracts worth AED 11 billion (USD 3 billion), according to information published this Monday (30) by news outlet Emirates News Agency (WAM)<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The contracts will be open to local, regional and international companies and include the third and last phase of the infrastructure package for support areas of the exhibition, such as parking lots, for instance.<\/p>\n

Other projects to be tendered this year are the construction of three thematic districts that will host the majority of the fair’s pavilions, public areas and the project, development and construction of all the temporary infrastructure needed for the event, according to WAM<\/em>.<\/p>\n

On the website Expo 2020 Dubai eSourcing<\/em> (esource.expo2020dubai.ae) it’s possible for businesses to register as a supplier, see details of the tenders to be held and the announcement of the winners for the contracts. There are projects of all sizes, according to WAM<\/em>. <\/p>\n

“We are committed to working with leading businesses from across the world in order to deliver an exceptional event of this scale, on time and on budget,” said Reem Al Hashemi, minister of State for International Cooperation and director general of the Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau, according to the news outlet.<\/p>\n

In addition to the construction projects, the organization plans to award other contracts worth AED 360 million (USD 98 million) for services such as legal advisory, event management and merchandising.<\/p>\n

The non-construction contracts to be procured this year will allow us to spread the investment made in the Expo as far as possible and enable local, regional and international businesses of all sizes to be part of what will be the most inclusive and international event in Expo history,” added the minister.<\/p>\n

Last year, the Expo 2020 bureau awarded over 1,200 contracts and invested over AED 2 billion (USD 544.4 million) in the economy. “While 2016 was an important year for design, 2017 is when the momentum of construction will really build, ahead of international participants beginning work on their pavilions in 2018”, said Ahmed Al Khatib, vice president of Real Estate and Delivery of the Expo 2020 Dubai. <\/p>\n
