The speaker will be colonel Sylvio Pessoa, a Brazilian Defense, Naval, Army and Air Force attach&eacute; in the Arab country. The lecture is an initiative of the USEK&rsquo;s Faculty of Business and Commercial Sciences and of its Center for Latin America Studies and Cultures (Cecal).<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We will go over what logistics is, with an emphasis on environmental aspects, covering reverse logistics, transportation, quality, costs, packaging,&rdquo; explains the colonel, who specializes in the subject. According to him, logistics and the environment &ldquo;are very deeply connected, and have been for a long time.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Logistics brings into the city what it needs and it has to remove from the city whatever isn&rsquo;t useful, the waste, and whatever is meant to be reused. My lecture will strive to shed light and promote self- examination, the asking of questions,&rdquo; says Pessoa.<\/p>\n<p>Deployed in Lebanon since October 2016, he has noticed interesting aspects of logistics in the Arab country. &ldquo;Lebanon has an uneven topography, and in some road curves, there are grooves designed to prevent hydroplaning. It&rsquo;s similar to the principle used in airport runways,&rdquo; he explains.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding practices in use in Brazil that could serve as landmarks, Pessoa mentions the regulation in place for the building of fuel tanks. &ldquo;The regulation is intended to prevent fuel from leaking into riverbeds in the event of an accident, for instance.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>Within the Brazilian Armed Forces, Pessoa cites the cardboard packaging recycling work that is done in tandem with cooperatives. &ldquo;The Army creates a value chain for cooperatives and prevents environmental damage,&rdquo; he says. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Quick facts <\/strong> <br \/>Lecture on logistics and the environment<br \/>February 20, 2017, 2:00 pm<br \/>Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, Jounieh, Lebanon.
