São Paulo – Coffee exports from Brazil reached USD 38.4 million in the first two months of this year, up 27% from the comparable year-ago period, the Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé) reported this Thursday (9). A total of 226,500 bags were shipped abroad, a similar amount to the one from January and February 2016.<\/p>\n

Revenue increased mostly as a result of average product price. According to Cecafé, prices were 19% higher in the first two months of 2017 than in the same period of the year before. <\/p>\n

Overall, Brazilian coffee exports fetched USD 900.2 million, up 6% from January and February 2016. Exported amount slid by 11% to 5.1 million bags. <\/p>\n

In February alone, close to 2.5 million bags of coffee were exported from Brazil, down 15.5% from February 2016. Revenue stood at USD 439 million, a 1% increase year-on-year.<\/p>\n

“We must keep in mind that February was a shorter month due to the Carnival holiday. However, Brazil was able to deliver a volume that was very close to 2.5 million bags, which proves that we have the ability to meet the demand,” a Cecafé press release quoted chairman Nelson Carvalhaes as saying. “Note also that revenue in the month was higher than last year,” he added. <\/p>\n

In the first two months of the year, the leading buyers of Brazilian coffee were Germany, the United States, Italy, Japan, Belgium, Russia, Turkey, France, Canada and Spain. <\/p>\n
