São Paulo – The number of violations against children in Syria last year was the highest on record, the United Nations Children’s Fund reported this Monday (13) as part of a report on the impacts of war on young people. <\/p>\n
In 2016, at least 652 children were killed in the country, a 20% increase from 2015. It was the worst year for Syrian children since records started being kept, in 2014, UNICEF said. Over 850 children were recruited to fight last year, more than twice the amount in the year before. <\/p>\n
"The depth of suffering is unprecedented. Millions of children in Syria come under attack on a daily basis, their lives turned upside down,” said Geert Cappelaere, UNICEF’s regional director for the Middle East and North Africa in Homs, Syria.<\/p>\n
