São Paulo – The World Trade Organization (WTO) expects a stronger growth for world trade this year and the next than the 1.3% expansion seen in 2016. According to the Trade Statistics and Outlook made public this Wednesday (12) by the organization, growth in 2017 should reach 2.4%, but since there is deep uncertainty in the economic scenario, which makes it difficult to make forecasts, the WTO believes the increase could range from 1.8% to 3.6%. For 2018, the estimate calls for an expansion between 2.1% and 4%.<\/p>\n
“We should see trade as part of the solution to economic difficulties, not part of the problem,” said WTO director-general Roberto Azevêdo via a statement by the organization, criticizing the adoption of protectionist barriers by governments.<\/p>\n
The WTO’s estimates were made based on expectations that the global economy will grow 2.7% this year and 2.8 the next, against 2.3% in 2016.<\/p>\n
