It was the best result for an April since 2006.<\/p>\n<p>The numbers are from the monthly retail survey <em>Pesquisa Mensal do Com&eacute;rcio (PMC)<\/em>, released this Tuesday (13) in Rio de Janeiro by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The growth in April came after two months of decline, with a combined rate of decline of 1.6%.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the expansion in April, retail sales were down 1.6% in the four months through April from the year-ago period. However, revenue was up 1.5%.<\/p>\n<p>As per non-seasonally adjusted figures, retail sales climbed 1.9% year-on-year in April.
