The data on the sector&rsquo;s foreign sales were compiled by the Institute of Studies and Industrial Marketing (IEMI) based on numbers from the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC), and were made available by the Furniture Industry Association of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (MOVERGS).<\/p>\n<p>Arab countries purchased USD 893,000 worth of furniture from Brazil in May, against USD 286,000 in the previous month. The United Arab Emirates was the largest buyer with USD 599,000, more than half of the total, and 196% more than in April.<\/p>\n<p>The second largest Arab furniture buyer from Brazil in May was Qatar with USD 92,000, followed by Djibouti with USD 61,000, Saudi Arabia, also with USD 61,000, and Oman with USD 29,000. Lebanon (USD 23,000), Jordan (USD 14,000), Kuwait (USD 13,000) and Morocco (USD 1,000) were the other Arab countries that purchased furniture from Brazil in May. <\/p>\n<p>Overall, Brazilian furniture exports increased 10.5% in May over April, with USD 57 million in revenues. From January to May, Brazil&rsquo;s furniture foreign sales generated USD 249.7 million, up 8% over the same months of 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Santa Catarina is the leader state in Brazil in furniture exports, with Rio Grande do Sul in second.
