In July of last year, the rate had gone up 0.54%.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), who made public the data of the so called preliminary IPCA &ndash; the official inflation rate &ndash;, this is the lowest negative variation for July since 2003, when it the same number was registered. Before, the lowest negative variation was registered in September of 1998 at -0.44%.<\/p>\n<p>With July&rsquo;s deflation, the IPCA-15 has now gone up 1.44% in the first seven months of the year, down 3.75 percentage points in comparison to the 5.19% of the same period of last year.
