São Paulo – The new headquarters of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce<\/strong> is on the cover of edition nº 438 of the architecture and design magazine Projeto (Project). The July\/August edition of the magazine includes a feature, with pictures and project’s details, of the facilities designed by architect Ruy Ohtake, which opened in April of this year at Avenida Paulista, São Paulo.<\/p>\n

The Arab Chamber’s new offices are in a building that was also designed by Ohtake, almost facing the old headquarters. “This building has only four foundation pillars. There’s no center pillar and I took advantage of that,” the architect told the magazine issued by publishing house Arco Editorial. <\/p>\n

The magazine explains that in the two floors occupied by the Chamber “the needs are organized around a central nucleus, which eliminates the need for usual corridors, making the routes more circular.” The texts adds that the facilities “make use of natural light from the building’s glass facades.” <\/p>\n

“The concept was to not have traditional, straight corridors with many doors, which gets no sunlight, so the lights are on all the time. To try and avoid that. How? By creating a strong space at the center of each floor,” said Ohtake, according to the magazine. <\/p>\n

These “strong spaces” are a circular auditorium with 180 seats at the 11th floor and a glass box with rounded corners at the 10th floor, where the meeting rooms and operational areas, such as the ANBA newsroom, are located. <\/p>\n

The magazine also highlights the auditorium’s internal decoration, with geometrical patterns inspired in arabesques, the ceiling of the entrance hall, with drawings done by the architect himself, the circulation areas with niches in the walls holding artworks and Arab handicrafts, similar to a museum, and the praying room, which indicates the direction of Mecca, which is the room on the cover of Projeto. <\/p>\n

“Unlike the old one, which was extremely formal, the new headquarters comes with a modern language, with the irreverence of the spatial arrangement and the curved forms of the volumes, but also the lively colors of the furniture and coatings,” the text reads. <\/p>\n

The opening of the new headquarters celebrated the 65th anniversary of the Arab Chamber, on July 2.<\/p>\n
