The exhibition is taking place for the first time since 2011, when the country&rsquo;s civil conflict started. <\/p>\n<p>The space is organized by Brazil&rsquo;s embassy in the Syrian capital and is hosting representatives from four Brazilian companies, two from the cosmetics sector and two from the pharmaceutical sector. <\/p>\n<p>According to information from state-owned news outlet <em>Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA)<\/em>, 45 countries are taking part in the expo and 1,562 companies are exhibiting their products.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Brazil, there are representatives from Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Kuwait, Oman, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Germany, France, Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, South Korea, China, Venezuela and Argentina, among other nations.<\/p>\n<p>Exports from Brazil to Syria dropped significantly since the start of the civil war in the Arab country. In 2010, shipments had reached the record of USD 547.4 million. The lowest level took place in 2013, when sales totaled slightly over USD 52 million. Last year, they stood at USD 106 million. The data is from the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC).<\/p>\n<p>From January to July of 2017, exports generated nearly USD 44 million, down 1.73% over the same period of 2016. The main items shipped were sugar and coffee.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, imports of products from Syria dropped from USD 47.4 million in 2010 to only USD 1.1 million last year. In 2017&rsquo;s first seven months, purchases totaled USD 873,000, up 20% over the same period of 2016.
