Sales amounted to roughly 923,500 60-kg bags, up from 877,600 bags shipped from January to September 2016.

Sales to Arab countries fetched USD 153.7 million in the first nine months of the year, up 17% from a year ago.

The share of Arab countries in overall exports from Brazil widened from 3% to 4%. Total exports from Brazil declined by 10.2% to 21.90 million bags.

On the other hand, total export revenue was up 1.1% to USD 3.7 billion, with prices averaging at USD 170.66 per bag of coffee – up from USD 150.53 year-to-date through September 2016.

In September alone, export volume shrank by 12% from August and by 25% year-on-year, while slid by 24.5%. Exports reached 2.299 million tons of coffee, with revenue coming out to USD 381.3 million. Cecafé chairman Nelson Carvalhaes said the results were rather unexpected.

“We ascribe this scenario to two factors: a smaller crop and the fact that producers were hesitant to sell. It will be very hard to make any forecasts going forward, after all September had always been a strong month, one with good results,” he said.

*Translated by Gabriel Pomerancblum

Nelson Almeida/AFP

Brazil’s Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé) said foreign sales amounted to roughly 923,500 bags from January to September, while total exports from the country dipped by 10.2%.

[102

0":"post-58453","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-agribusiness
Brazil’s Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé) said foreign sales amounted to roughly 923,500 bags from January to September, while total exports from the country dipped by 10.2%.
["GET
