This Monday (6) in your ANBA Bulletin: Brazil’s minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina, will join an Arab Chamber webinar next Wednesday (8) at 9 am (BRT). The topic will be the food supply in Brazil-Arab countries trade. Union of Arab Chambers secretary-general Khaled Hanafy, of Egypt, and Arab Chamber president Rubens Hannun will talk too. Arab Chamber secretary-general Tamer Mansour will be the moderator. And the Arab Chamber will donate 30,000 masks, 1,250 liters of hand sanitizers and 5,700 hospital pillowcases to the largest public hospital in the East Zone of São Paulo. The Arab Chamber will call for new donations from members, Arab-Brazilian companies and organizations in both Brazil and the Arab countries. The goal is mitigating the effects of COVID-19. And coronavirus is changing trade duties around the world. In an online conference, Apex-Brasil presented figures on the countries that have reduced import taxes on medical supplies and foodstuffs as well as markets that have banned the exports of some products. And Morocco’s ambassador to Brasília, Nabil Adghoghi, gave an interview with our reporter Bruna Garcia on the relations between the countries in the current scenario. He believes Morocco-Brazil trade remains unaffected. In Morocco, travel, automobile and textile industries have been the most impacted by the pandemic, he says.

São Paulo – The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce is hosting its first online event amid the coronavirus lockdown. The Webinar “Brazil and Arab Countries: food supply chain, current perspectives and challenges” will take place next Wednesday, April 8, from 9 am to 10:30 am, featuring Brazil’s Agriculture, Livestock and Supply minister Tereza Cristina, Union of Arab Chambers secretary-general Khaled Hanafy, of Egypt, and Arab Chamber president Rubens Hannun.

Against COVID-19, Arab Chamber makes donations to hospitals

São Paulo – The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce has launched a campaign earlier this week to fight the new coronavirus pandemic. The organization will raise donations for public hospitals and charity entities that attends to the low-income population. As a first action, the Arab Chamber itself will donate 30,000 masks, 1,250 liters of hand sanitizers and 5,700 hospital pillowcases to Santa Marcelina, the largest public hospital in the East Zone of São Paulo.

Pandemic changes trade duties across the world

Tunisia’s first female doctor honored in currency bill

São Paulo – Tunisia is honoring its first-ever female doctor, Tawhida Ben Cheikh, on new TND 10 bills. The new bills went into circulation towards the end of March. Tunisian Central Bank governor Abdelaziz Ben Said was quoted in a statement as saying Dr. Ben Cheikh has been picked as a tribute to all women in the fields of science and medicine.

Saudi government to pay wages for companies

São Paulo – Saudi Arabia approved a compensation payment of wages in the private sector. The goal is mitigating the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the private sector and Saudi workers. The total value amounts to SR 9 billion (USD 2.39 billion, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported last Friday (3).

Coronavirus: Algeria gives incentive to alternative foods

São Paulo – The coronavirus pandemic is affecting the routine of Algerians and the economy of the Arab country. Algeria, one of Africa’s ten largest economies, has announced measures to facilitate the import of raw materials to manufacture protection equipment against the virus, called for the population to consume alternative foodstuffs and authorized the direct sale of floor from the mills to the population to facilitate supply. A group in the country has announced the production of chloroquine.
