Brazilian private sector preparing for COP27
This Thursday (18) in your ANBA Bulletin: The Brazilian private sector is preparing for the COP27 to take place in Egypt in November. The Brazilian National Confederation of Industry (CNI) held earlier this week a meeting with businesspeople to discuss the topic. Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) secretary-general & CEO Tamer Mansour participated and gave his view on the transition of the Arab countries to a sustainable economy. The classes of the course “The Islamic World” seek to inform Brazilian entrepreneurs on the opportunities and challenges in business and consumption in Islamic-majority countries. And a free walking tour through the Brás district in São Paulo will take place on Sunday (21) to show the similarities between local buildings and the Islamic architecture in Cairo, Egypt. The tour will take place from 10 am to 12 pm.

Next Saturday, August 20, São Paulo’s Syrian Sports Club, Esporte Clube Sírio, will host the lecture ‘Stories from 25 de março’ [‘Histórias da 25 de Março’] with businessman Fernando Maluhy. He will discuss 25 de Março, a street shopping hub in the central area of São Paulo city, where the first Arab immigrants from Brazil established stores upon arrival. Maluhy has been working in the region for almost 70 years.

The third edition of The Islamic World free course began this Wednesday morning (17) in a hybrid format. Guests attended the first three classes in person in Brasília, and Brazilian businesspeople from different regions of the country and the world watched online. This year’s theme is “Ethics and Business with Consumers in the Islamic World.” The classes inform about opportunities and challenges for Brazilian entrepreneurs in the 57 countries with Islamic majority.

Traditionally seen as the owners of the world’s largest oil reserves, the Arab countries are putting themselves on the map of climate change towards sustainability. Brazilian private sector representatives are meeting this Tuesday (16) and Wednesday (17) in the capital city of São Paulo to discuss the low-carbon economy and prepare for the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP27), to take place in November in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. The debates are occurring at the event “Industry Strategy for a Low Carbon Economy,” held by the Brazilian National Confederation of Industry (CNI) and its partners.

Open for registration, the walking tour “Cairo, São Paulo, Ties: Intertwined Heritage” includes a walk through Brás to the Brás Mosque. Electronic payments exceeded the use of cash for the first time in Saudi Arabia last year, a study conducted by the Saudi Central Bank revealed. In terms of volume, the use of electronic payments increased to 62% in 2021 from 44% in 2019, Saudi newspaper Arab News reported in its website.

Brazilian port sector throughput dropped by 3.3% in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period last year, according to a report by the Brazilian National Waterway Transportation Agency (ANTAQ) released this Monday (15). According to the agency, organized ports and authorized and leased terminals handled 581.3 million tonnes in the period.
