Film festival to screen 11 Arab movies in Brazil
This Thursday (25) in your ANBA Bulletin: The 17th Arab World Film Festival will screen 11 Arab movies in Brazil from August 31 to September 7, including films from Morocco, Palestine, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. The festival is held by Icarabe together with SESC São Paulo and supported by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC)’s Arab House and the Brazilian Sleep Institute. The 19th UNESCO-Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture and the Arab Latinos project were launched at the headquarters of the ABCC in São Paulo earlier this week. What does Brazil imports from Africa? The top-selling products are fertilizers and oil, but African countries also supply Brazil with chemicals, aluminum, cacao, fish, glass, and other goods. And Brazilian professor and lawyer Wiliander Salomão has published four books on the UAE. The books have also been translated into English, thus further spreading knowledge about the Arab country.

The Palestinian ambassador to Brazil, Ibrahim Alzeben, received the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit from the Military Public Prosecutor’s Office this Tuesday (23). The diplomat, also dean of the Council of Arab Ambassadors to Brazil, received the honor as part of a group of 123 personalities recognized for their services on behalf of the Military Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPM) and Brazilian society.

Wiliander Salomão published four books on the Gulf state, thus enriching the literature on the topic in Brazilian bookstores. He plans on launching an updated edition of his first book later this year.

Egypt-based company Mansoura Glass Co. plans on boosting its capacity to a daily throughput of 200 tonnes within five years. The glassware manufacturer currently produces 50 tonnes a day. According to Mansoura Glass Co. Marketing director Mohamed Hamed (pictured above), the company acquired a new property to build several furnaces on and fulfill the plan.

The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers the interest of other countries in joining BRICS points to the group’s international relevance. Several countries, including Arabs, have expressed their willingness to join the group formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. At the last summit, the members agreed to initiate discussions on expansion.

The online event started this Tuesday (23) and runs until Thursday (25). The debates were attended by executives such as the secretary general and CEO of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC), Tamer Mansour, who spoke about the steps to internationalize companies on Arab soil.

The 19th UNESCO-Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture was launched in Brazil, at the headquarters of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC), in São Paulo this Monday (22) morning. The event featured a round table with five laureates. Submissions for the award are expected to open within ten days.

Returning to in-person screenings after two online editions, the Arab World Film Festival will celebrate the diversity of Arab countries in its 17th edition, bringing ten unreleased films in Brazil to São Paulo. From August 31 to September 7, the public will be able to watch productions from Morocco, Palestine, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria at CineSesc. There will be 11 features in total, one documentary and ten fiction. Eight works will have in-person screenings, and three will be available on the Sesc Digital platform.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) launched this Monday (22) the Arab Latinos project. The initiative aims to strengthen ties between regions and assess contemporary intercultural dialogue between Latin America and Arab countries. The event occurred at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) headquarters in São Paulo. The initiative is carried out within the framework of the Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Program for strengthening the Arabic language at UNESCO and the United Nations Plan to integrate arts and culture in all programs.
