This Monday (31) in your ANBA Bulletin: An interview with Brazilian Footwear Industries Association (Abicalçados) executive president Haroldo Ferreira. Sales in the sector in Brazil and elsewhere were severely affected by COVID-19 but are expected to recover in the last quarter. The return of international footwear trade shows, most of them online, gives some hope. Some export orders have been received, Ferreira said. The Arab Film Festival had its opening session last Friday (28) with the film Gaza, portraying the everyday life in the Gaza Strip. Producer Soraya Smaili talked about bringing back the first film the festival ever screened fifteen years ago about Palestinian intellectual Edward Said. The festival is hosted by the Icarabe and SESC SP and sponsored by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, with support from Instituto do Sono and Fambras. Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (Zidad) commercial director gave ANBA an interview talking about their tailor-made plans for Brazilian companies. And seven foods are being produced in the United Arab Emirates despite the unfavorable weather conditions. The pandemic came as a reminder of the importance of food security. |

The 15th Arab World Film Festival, which is taking place online on digital platforms this year due to the social isolation caused by the coronavirus pandemic, had its opening session last Friday’s (28) night. Getting some 350 viewers, the participants of the online panel discussed the films of the festival, the importance of spreading the Arab culture, the pandemic that led the event to be online, and Lebanon’s tragedy.

Gulf farmers are not all about dates. Spinach, salmon, mango, sardine and other foods are being produced sustainably in the United Arab Emirates to help bring about food security, local newspaper The National reported online.

The Brazilian footwear industry expects better sales in both the domestic and foreign markets in the fourth quarter. In an interview with ANBA, Brazilian Footwear Industries Association (Abicalçados) executive president Haroldo Ferreira said that they expect sales to start recovering in Q4, and industries are receiving export orders.

The Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD) has laid out plans for Brazilian companies. According to commercial director Khalid Al Marzooqi (pictured above), KIZAD has worked closely with Brazilian investors to better understand their business requirements and challenges. “To help facilitate their market entry, we are offering tailor-made investment plans and incentive packages, as well as collaborating with various governmental departments to help Brazilian companies speed up and streamline their set-up process,” he told ANBA.

Egypt’s Ministry of International Cooperation managed to secure USD 500 million in finances over the past eight months from international financial institutions and countries in order to support the healthcare sector amid the COVID-19 crisis, Egyptian newspaper Al Ahram reported based on a statement made public by the ministry.

The Edward Saïd Chair of the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) is set to launch the first edition of Exilium – Revista de Estudos da Contemporaneidade (Exilium, a Magazine on Contemporaneity Studies) on its website, at 4 pm next Monday (31). Edward Saïd, whom the Chair is named after, was one of the foremost Palestinian scholars and a major champion of Arab causes.

The Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company (Infraero) announced that it will award areas for commercial purposes within the Santos Dumont Airport (SDU) in Rio de Janeiro and Congonhas Airport (CGH) in São Paulo. Expressions of interest from businesses will be accepted until September 10.
