Reduced mobility impacts imports of Arab oil

This Friday (7) in your ANBA Bulletin: a story on the effects of reduced mobility within Brazil upon imports of oil from Arab countries. Social isolation caused fuel usage to drop, as did domestic production of lubricants, which rely on Arab oil as an input. Fertilizers overtook oil as the most imported item from Arab countries to Brazil year-to-date through May.

And Brazilians extended their solidarity to Lebanon in the wake of the tragedy that unfolded this week. The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce issued a statement of sympathy, as did the government of Brazil. President Jair Bolsonaro said during a public solemnity that the country will take action to assist the people of Lebanon.

Ginger production and exports are going strong in Brazil. The product is on an upswing amid the Covid-19 pandemic due to its health-promoting properties. Brazilian smallholder farmers are investing in growing ginger organically for improved gains.

The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) entered into an agreement with the UAE's International Center for Biosaline Agriculture, and Dubai launched a plan to rekindle its economy post-Covid-19.
