Social isolation caused fuel usage to drop, as did domestic production of lubricants, which rely on Arab oil as an input. Fertilizers overtook oil as the most imported item from Arab countries to Brazil year-to-date through May.
And Brazilians extended their solidarity to Lebanon in the wake of the tragedy that unfolded this week. The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce issued a statement of sympathy, as did the government of Brazil. President Jair Bolsonaro said during a public solemnity that the country will take action to assist the people of Lebanon.
