This Thursday (16) in your ANBA Bulletin: Brazilian bakery chain Ofner has launched a panettone made with dates from the United Arab Emirates. Some of the products have been sent to the Arab country to test the market. The panettones will also be sold at the coffeeshop in Brazil Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai starting next week, Arabic calligraphy was added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity following a joint effort of 16 Arab nations. And while the world is concerned with high inflation rates, the rate in the GCC states is projected to have risen by 2.1% this year, following a 1.2% rate in the region in 2020.

Arabic calligraphy declared UNESCO cultural heritage

After a collaboration between 16 Arab countries led by Saudi Arabia and under the supervision of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), “Arabic Calligraphy: Knowledge, Skills, and Practices” was officially added to the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Egyptian company seeks to export herbs and spices to Brazil

Egyptian brand Akapi Herbs operates in the spices, herbs, and seasonings sector and aims at the Brazilian market. The brand’s sales manager, Michael Kamal, explains the motivation is the size of the consumer market in the country. “We dream of entering our products of high-quality spices and aromatic herbs to all markets, especially in the Brazilian market because it is a large market that can accommodate our products,” he revealed in an interview with ANBA.

GCC states’ inflation predicted at 2.1% in 2021

Inflation in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states is projected to have risen by 2.1% this year, a report by the GCC Statistical Center revealed. The group consists of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

China resumes Brazilian beef imports

China allowed the resumption of Brazilian beef imports as of this Wednesday (15). The suspension of purchases began on September 4, after the discovery of two cases of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), also known as mad cow disease, in Nova Canaã do Norte, in the state of Mato Grosso, and Belo Horizonte, in Minas Gerais.

Immigrant Fest to feature attractions from Arab countries

The Immigrant Fest this year will feature attractions from 43 countries, including Morocco, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Palestine. The event will take place physically from December 17 through 19 from 10 am to 6 pm at the Immigration Museum. Tickets are limited and on sale on the website of the Museum that holds the festival.

Brazilian company seeks to export honey to Arabs

Brazil’s Baldoni, a producer of honey, propolis, and jams, seeks to enter the Arab market. For this goal, the company has already obtained halal certification for its main product, honey. Halal guarantees a product follows Islamic precepts and therefore is allowed for consumption by Muslims. The certificate was provided to the company by SIILHalal, a certifier based in Chapecó, Santa Catarina.

Panettone with UAE dates is Brazil’s Ofner best-seller

Every year, Ofner, a São Paulo-based industry specialized in sweets, snacks, chocolates, and ice cream, launches new panettone for the holiday season. One of the company’s new flavors for this year is apricot and dates, which since October has already been a sales and public hit. The product is made with dates grown in the United Arab Emirates. The whole and pitted dates are of the Khalas variety, produced by Al Foah under the Date Crown brand.

SIILHalal cleared to certify three new products

The Gulf Accreditation Center (GAC) gave the greenlight earlier this month for Brazil’s SIILHalal to certify three new categories of products: chemicals, cosmetics, and processed and industrialized beef. This allows SIILHalal to issue halal certificates for companies of these sectors that export or want to export to the member countries of the GAC, namely Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Yemen, and Kuwait.

Brazilian footwear exports surpassed pre-pandemic levels

Brazilian footwear exports in November surpassed pre-pandemic levels both in volume and sales. According to Brazilian Association of Footwear Industries (Abicalçados) data, 11.68 million pairs were shipped last month, generating USD 93.2 million in revenue.
