Brazilians show the origins of açaí in Dubai
This Monday (14) in your ANBA Bulletin: The Brazilian participation in Gulfood, a food and beverage show in the United Arab Emirates which started this Sunday (13). From Dubai, reporter Thais Sousa writes on the strong presence of national açaí brands at the show. The goal is to show the Brazilian origin of the fruit, which is already consumed in the Arab market.
ANBA journalist from Cairo Omar Assi also writes from Dubai about the participation of Egyptian companies in Gulfood. Ninety-four companies from the country’s food and beverage sector showcase their products in the UAE, one of Egypt’s major food importers.
The Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA) opened its office in Dubai. The Consulate General of Lebanon in São Paulo acquired its own headquarters, and a giant half-tonne Egyptian crystal chandelier was installed in a mosque in the capital of São Paulo.

The Misericórdia Mosque in São Paulo, Brazil, has received earlier this week a half-ton chandelier with 150,000 Egyptian crystals. The huge piece was designed by Egyptian civil engineer Mohammed Darwich, who lives in Brazil and sells Egypt’s Asfour chandeliers. The chandelier was donated by the businessman.

For at least 20 years, Brazil has been producing and using bioplastics as a substitute for products of fossil origin. Two decades later, one of the main associations in the sector, the Brazilian Association of Compostable Biopolymers and Composting (ABICOM), assesses the environment is favorable for the country to have a growth rate above the global average. The worldwide estimate is for the bioplastics industry to more than triple its production capacity in the next five years. Data is from European Bioplastic, and the most recent report was released in December 2021.

Brazil will be represented in the science and technology exhibition MILSET Expo-Sciences Asia 2022 to take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from February 20 till 25, in The Cultural and Scientific Association. The professor Eliandro Rezende da Silva and the student Marcos Magalhães will travel to the emirate to present their project Orianna, a voice-activated virtual assistant for wheelchairs for people with motor disabilities.

The Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA) opened an office in Dubai this Sunday (13) in the United Arab Emirates. The facility will be located at the branch of the São Paulo State Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Competitiveness (Investe SP) in the emirate. It will work to insert and expand the presence of Brazilian agribusiness products in the region’s market.

From Pará to Dubai: Brazilians show origins of açaí berry

Açaí berry is the flagship of the Brazilian space at Gulfood 2022. More than that, the fruit is brought as a national symbol of the country. The unique strategy for the Amazonian fruit was devised by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) this year to link its image to the country. The show is taking place in Dubai until February 17 and is the most considerable for the sector in the entire Middle East.

The food and beverage show Gulfood, whose 27th edition is occurring from February 13 to 17 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, features the participation of 94 Egyptian companies, distributed in five different pavilions. Gulfood is the biggest show in the Middle East and the second-largest in the world in the segment, with around 4,000 exhibitors from 120 countries distributed in 21 pavilions and over 150 speakers,100 award-winning chefs, and company and government heads.

The Brazil pavilion at Gulfood 2022 opened this Sunday morning (13), on the first day of the largest food sector show in the Middle East. The pavilion is organized by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), which expects to generate over USD 415 million in business during and after the show. The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) has two spaces at the show.

The ambassador of Bahrain to Brasília, Bader Alhelaibi, met last Thursday (10) with the Minister of Citizenship of Brazil, João Roma. The two countries have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on youth and sports matters, and Roma and Alhelaibi discussed how to activate and strengthen this cooperation.

The General Consulate of Lebanon in São Paulo announced it would have its own headquarters on Avenida Paulista, obtained through donations from the Lebanese community living in Brazil. Consul Rudy El Azzi signed this Thursday (10) the purchase contract for the new headquarters, located at number 1,754 on one of the main avenues in the city of São Paulo. The opening date will be announced soon.

Syria has issued a tender to purchase 200,000 tonnes of wheat from internal and external suppliers. The process was opened by the country’s General Establishment for Cereal Processing, Storage and Trade, affiliated with the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection and made public in Brazil by the Embassy of Syria in Brazil. The deadline for submission of price offers in the tender is next Monday (14).

The United Arab Emirates, where the Gulfood show will begin this Sunday (13), is a market with enormous potential for international food and beverage suppliers, including re-exporters. The country imported USD 15.4 billion in products from the sector in 2020 and re-exported almost a quarter, USD 4.1 billion.

Brazilian Vanusia Nogueira was chosen as executive director of the International Coffee Organization (ICO), following a decision by the organization’s member countries at the 131st Session of the International Coffee Council, on February 9 and 10. According to the Brazilian Specialty Coffee Association (BSCA) release, the candidacy was supported by Brazil’s public and private sectors and national diplomacy.

Santos Dumont Airport, near downtown Rio de Janeiro, will be auctioned along with Galeão International Airport in the second half of 2023, announced Thursday (10) Infrastructure Minister Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas. He confirmed Santos Dumont’s withdrawal from the 7th Round of Airport Auctions to take place this year.
