Halal-related events to be held for companies at Gulfood
This Thursday (16) in your ANBA Bulletin: The Halal do Brasil project prepared some events for the sidelines of Gulfood, the food and beverage trade show to take place later this month in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. On the 21st, at 9 am, a workshop will be held on how halal can boost the internationalization of companies. The 23rd, at 7 pm, will see a networking cocktail between businesspeople from Brazil and Islamic markets. Both events will take place at the Conrad Hotel. Registration is open. Brazilian retailer Magazine Luiza presented its business strategy in an event held by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia. Arab ambassadors will organize missions to two Brazilian states. This was discussed earlier this week with executives of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) in Brasília. Paraná is set to be one of the destinations.

Saudi Arabia chose its first woman astronaut to go into space, state media has reported. Rayyana Barnawi will join fellow Saudi male astronaut Ali Al-Qarni on a mission to the International Space Station (ISS) during the second quarter of 2023, the official Saudi Press Agency said on Sunday (12). The astronauts “will join the crew of the AX-2 space mission” and the space flight will “launch from the United States,” the agency said.

The Embassy of Kuwait in Brasília celebrated this Wednesday (15) the 62nd National Day and 32nd Liberation Day of the Gulf country. On the occasion, ambassador Nasser Almotairi received authorities and diplomats from Brazil and the Arab countries and took the opportunity to announce the Brazil-Kuwait Economic Forum, expected to be held in June this year.

Archaeologists have uncovered the remains of a tavern dating back nearly 5,000 years in southern Iraq, which they hope will elucidate the lives of ordinary people in the world’s first cities. The joint team from USA’s University of Pennsylvania and Italy’s University of Pisa unearthed the discovery in the ruins of ancient Lagash, northeast of the modern city of Nasiriyah, which was already known to have been one of the first urban centers of the Sumerian civilization of ancient Iraq.

The United Arab Emirates is preparing to host the Global Summit of Women 2023, which will take place in Abu Dhabi on February 21 and 22, under the theme “Role of Female Leaders in Peace Building, Social Integration, and Driving Prosperity.” Organized by the World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) and the General Women’s Union (GWU), the event is being held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women receiving the right to vote.

The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) will hold a series of activities in 2023 to foster Brazil-Arab ties in cooperation with ambassadors from these states to Brazil. ABCC president Osmar Chohfi and secretary-general & CEO Tamer Mansour met with diplomats on Tuesday (14) in the headquarters of the Arab League in Brasília to present the activities held in 2022 and the planned activities for 2023.

The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will cooperate to create new opportunities for Egyptian companies supported by the US program to export to Brazil. The topic was discussed during the weekend between the ABCC’s regional director in Cairo, Michael Gamal, and the chief of the USAID party in the Egyptian city, Rachid Benjelloun. USAID works in the Arab country to support small- and medium-sized enterprises.

Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) executives are participating in a series of appointments to lobby for actions in support of Syria. Meetings started on Monday (13) and run until Wednesday (15) in the Brazilian capital city. The Arab country was hit by an earthquake earlier this month, and according to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), as many as 5.3 million people in Syria may have been left homeless by the disaster.

Registration is open to apply for the Certificate of Proficiency of Brazilian Portuguese for Foreigners (Celpe-Bras). Those interested can register until February 24 through the Celpe-Bras system. Exams will be administered on April 25 and 27 in facilities in Brazil and elsewhere.

Brazil exported 14.63 million pairs of shoes last January for USD 117.9 million, the Brazilian Footwear Industries Association (Abicalçados) said. Exports posted a an increase of 4.5% in volume and 16.6% in value from a year earlier.
